It’s important that everyone knows where their water valve is. It’s also often known as a toby tap and allows you to be able to turn the water supply to your property off and on.

This could be vital during certain events, such as a burst water pipe, building a new home, or carrying out home or business improvements.
We have now made information available on the location of all water valves owned and managed by Scottish Water throughout Scotland. All you need is your postcode.

Sometimes you may need this information very quickly and there may be delays in having to contact Scottish Water to find out on your behalf. From November 2020 to October 2022, almost 18,000 customers contacted us about their toby taps.

This means that you will be able to:

  • Immediately find the location of your toby tap
  • Avoid lengthy delays in contacting Scottish Water
  • Find out detailed information about the asset, such as operation status, map co-ordinates, postcode, and legal status

Pictured below are some examples of what your water valve or toby tap might look like.
